Dale Wood published a series of compositions based on hymn tunes:

  • Wood works (in six volumes) - based on traditional hymn tunes
  • Softly and Tenderly (in several volumes) - based on hymn tunes from the Southern Gospel style of the early-mid 20th century

He also published several collections of free works and a collection of last-verse reharmonizations and descants. His work remains in print from the Sacred Music Press.

Wood's compositions are straightforward meditations based on late 1970s-early 1980s musical sensibilities. They make full use of the resources of the modern organ, and though not particularly difficult, they do demand an organist with full command of the instrument.
